What is a DSP?
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) work alongside individuals with disabilities, helping them achieve their goals while promoting dignity, independence, and a safe, healthy environment. We are looking for healthcare-focused college students to support our friends while we support you!
Direct Support Professionals provide hands-on assistance with essential daily care to ensure comfort, dignity, and well-being. This includes support with bathing, showering, grooming, hair care, toileting, incontinence care, and specialized needs such as colostomy and catheter care. Staff help individuals maintain independence while receiving the level of care they need.
DSPs assist individuals with safe movement and positioning throughout the day. Responsibilities include supporting ambulation using gait trainers and TRAM devices, assisting with manual and powered wheelchairs, and applying/removing orthotic devices such as AFOs. Staff are also trained in safe transfers, including the use of Hoyer lifts, to ensure safety and comfort.
Our team supports a wide range of medical needs under established care protocols. This includes monitoring vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen levels), assisting with oxygen use, and providing respiratory care such as trach care, suctioning, nebulizer treatments, inhalants, and pulmonary vest therapy. DSPs are trained to observe and report any physical, emotional, or behavioral changes.
DSPs assist with all aspects of nutrition and medication management. This includes meal preparation, use of adaptive feeding equipment, and following specialized dietary plans. Staff are trained to administer nutrition via g-tube or g/j tube and operate feeding pumps. Medication responsibilities include safe preparation and administration of medications (including injections, topical treatments, and tube-administered meds) in compliance with CARF standards.
Supporting meaningful, fulfilling lives is at the heart of this role. DSPs help individuals participate in community outings, build relationships, and stay connected. Staff also implement CLS programs, helping individuals work toward personal goals and increase independence in everyday activities.
DSPs maintain accurate documentation through electronic charting systems to ensure continuity of care. They work closely with an interdisciplinary team - including families, physicians, therapists, case managers, and community mental health professionals - to advocate for each individual. Responsibilities also include maintaining a clean, safe living environment through routine housekeeping and deep cleaning tasks.

Never worked in a healthcare setting? NO PROBLEM! We will train you to be successful in your role as a DSP!

We offer flexible scheduling TO work around your already demanding class schedule. Schedules change with the semester, so your work here can only help your education, not hinder it.

Work alongside other students who know what you are experiencing - both in class and at work. At FCC, your success is important to us! Our leadership team is committed to positive feedback loops and staff involvement.
In addition, Full Circle Care employees must be able to comply with Medicaid requirements including (but not limited to):
